National Council on Compensation Insurance Requests 17.1% Hike
Last Thursday, Associated Industries of Florida Hosted a Town Hall at HCC’s Dale Mabry campus. The event was a great success with many local business leaders showing up to participate in the discussion. Our client Steve Cona from the Associated Builders and Contractors Gulf Coast Chapter was a speaker at the event, along with Senator Jeff Brandes and Representative Amanda Murphy.
The National Council on Compensation Insurance has requested the state approve a 17.1% increase in Florida’s workers’ compensation rates largely in response to a recent judicial ruling that invalidates cost-saving attorney fee caps in the workers’ compensation law. Associated Industries of Florida (AIF) is concerned that this increase will become a threat to Florida’s economic growth and warns that the financial impact of increased litigation and attorney fees will damage the state’s successful business climate.
In response to this request, AIF is hosting the 2016 Helping Florida Work Town Hall Tour. This tour will provide communities across Florida the opportunity to share the challenges and threats facing employers and employees in the workers’ compensation system, and discuss solutions to preserve the guaranty of medical and wage benefits to injured workers at an affordable price to their employers.
