“4th Floor Files” talks to Ron Pierce

By Peter Schorsch

The latest installment of the 4th Floor Files features Ron Pierce. Ron’s clients include Florida Association of Community Health Centers, Pepin Distributing, and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Here’s the file on Ron.

Significant other? Children? Grand kids?

My wife Stephanie and I have been married for nearly 16 years. Our son Andrew is 8 and loves baseball, college football, and Minecraft!

In 25 words or less, explain what you do.

I build relationships, develop solutions, and achieve results for our clients.

Without using the words Democrat, Independent or Republican, conservative or liberal, describe your political persuasion.

Family values, pro-business, and live within your means.

If you have one, what is your motto?

My dad taught me very early in life that if the job is worth doing then it is worth doing well.

During your career, have you had a favorite pro bono client?

I have had the privilege of working with many charities and community organizations through the years, but I am especially proud to work with Pepin Academies, a not-for-profit charter school in Hillsborough County successfully serving students with disabilities.

Three favorite charities.

Humane Society of Tampa Bay, March of Dimes, and Florida FBLA-PBL Foundation

Any last-day-of-Session traditions?

Hoping to end by 5:00 pm so I can be home to my family in Brandon by midnight

What are you most looking forward to during the 2013 Legislative Session.

I am looking forward to managing the challenge of growing RSA and still showing the same value to our clients that have helped us become what we are today.

If you could have another lobbyist’s client list, it would be…

Natalie King’s.  I already know a lot of what would be required of me.

Professional accomplishment of which you are most proud?

I actually have two.  First, for having the courage to start RSA Consulting in April 2009.  There were many unknowns when I started the business and my wife and I had to believe and have confidence in this decision for our family.  It was the best professional decision I have ever made.  Second, in December 2010 I completed my Master’s in Public Administration from the University of South Florida.

Lobbyists are often accused of wearing Gucci loafers; do you own a pair of Gucci loafers? If not, why not?

I do not own a pair of Gucci loafers.  My shoe allowance is spent on Nikes, not dress shoes.

Who is your favorite Florida Capitol Press Corp reporter and why?

Steve Bousquet from the Tampa Bay Times because he has a wicked outside jump shot on the basketball court.

Other than SaintPetersBlog.com, your reading list includes…

Sayfie, News Service of Florida, The Current, The Buzz, and Baseball America

What swear word do you use most often?

Depends on what the driver in front of me did

What is your most treasured possession?

My son and I are huge baseball fans and treasure our collection of autographed baseballs, most of which we have gotten together.

The best hotel in Florida is…

the one I am staying at with my family.

You’ve just learned that you will be hosting a morning talk show about Florida politics. Who are the first four guests you’d invite to appear?

Senator Marco Rubio, Speaker Will Weatherford, Governor Jeb Bush, and Senate President Don Gaetz

Favorite movie.

Rudy.  And just about every other sports movie ever made.

Before the ‘gift ban’, what was your favorite restaurant in Tallahassee? What is your favorite today?

My wife and I really miss the Garfield’s that was in Tallahassee Mall.  Favorite restaurant today is One 0 One.

When you pig out, what do you eat?

Ale House combo platter, cheese fries, and zinger melt, and sometimes even get Captain Jack’s Buried Treasure (with my wife’s encouragement to “share”)

If you could have dinner with a historical figure no longer living, who would it be?

I know this is one that is probably overused, but it would be President Lincoln.
